Actions Not Words

October is Black History Month, an event we have been proud to support since we started back in 2012.

This year’s theme is ‘Action Not Words’.

Blackhistorymonth.org.uk states ‘To get to a better tomorrow, we can’t just focus on the past.  The past is in the past.  We can acknowledge and learn from it, but to improve the future, we need action, not words.  We need to come together around a shared common goal to achieve a better world for everyone’.

This really struck a chord with us at ACS as this has been our inspiration from our very beginning.   We are a diverse team of foster parents and staff, from different ethnic, faith and cultural backgrounds – and this was deliberate from the beginning.

Our shared common goal was to provide safe, secure, loving foster homes for children from minority backgrounds which could meet their full needs.  Black and Asian children are over represented in the care system and we wanted to provide for them.

Our ‘Action Not Words’ has provided a culture within our organisation where difference and diversity is not only accepted but celebrated.  We understand the differences between us and work together to ensure that all of our children have access to what they need, even when a child isn’t living with a family that share their cultural heritage, our diverse melting pot means that help, support and guidance are easily at hand.

Our approach has been extremely successful are creating a wonderful culture too.  We are often described as a family, despite being an agency and it’s our warmth and acceptance of difference that has led to this.

At ACS we are firm believers that if we come together around a shared common goal, we will achieve a better world for everyone…especially for the most vulnerable members of our society – our children.  To find out more about our approach, find out more about us.
