ACS would like to welcome the Month of Ramadan and wish all our Muslim staff and foster parents a wonderful Ramadan.

We hope it brings the Muslim community all the joy and peace the month has been intended for.

Ramadan is the 10th Month in the Islamic calendar and one of the most important months in the year for Muslims as it is one of the 5 Pillars which all Muslims must adhere to.

5 PILLARS

1. The Shahadah – to take the oath to believe in Allah and that Mohammed peace be upon him is the last messenger.

2. Zakat- to give alms(charity)

3. Hajj- pilgrimage to Hajj at least once in the life time of a Muslim if financially able.

4. Salah -5 daily prayers

5. Ramadan – to fast the holy month of Ramadan.

Muslim families fast from dawn to dusk. Dawn-Sahoor is the closing fast meal to dusk-Iftari is the opening fast time meal, currently the fast is approximately 18.5 hours of the day. There is no food, drink or smoking permitted during the fasting times.Aswell as fasting, Ramadan is a month for prayers, recitation of the Holy Quran, giving in charity, families and Muslim communities uniting at the time of Iftar/Sehri, it is a month of patience, thankfulness and reflection and improving ones connection to their creator.

The Muslim community are also one the highest to give to charity (Zakat) than any other community according to the charities commission and a lot of this is paid during the month of Ramadan. Ramadan is a time when Muslims re-commit themselves to what they believe. It is a time when they re-establish their firm bond with their Creator, they believe that this is the month that this can be achieved by all those things that Ramadan brings.
