“So, fostering for me started at my local church. There was a lady there who had been fostering for years. She spoke to the congregation one day and encouraged more people to consider it.”
“I’d always wanted to work with children. Around the same time, I went to pick up my youngest son from his after-school club, and there on the desk was a flyer about fostering with ACS. It felt like everything was pointing me in that direction.”
“Currently, I’m fostering three children. You really see the improvement when you spend one-to-one time with them and give them the nurturing they need. I do long term fostering, and I’ve seen how sticking with them can be life-changing for them and for us.”
“I’ve had children pass their GCSEs, go on to university, and just grow and develop in ways you wouldn’t have imagined when they first arrived. You start to see their positive personalities and strengths come through. That’s why I keep doing it, it’s amazing.”
“My best fostering moments are when I take them on holiday. Just seeing them have fun and truly enjoy themselves is special. For some of the children, it’s their first time on a plane or their first holiday abroad. I’ve had children move on and tell me their lives were never the same after those experiences.”
Support with ACS
“ACS provides a support worker who helps me take the children out and offers guidance when needed. It’s a small community, and sometimes you just need to feel that sense of belonging. It’s very personal, and it’s reassuring to know the support is there.”
